Malawi - Day 8

It’s 7am and we’re heading home. Having to leave the wonderful people of Malawi is heart wrenching. The events of the week catch up with us on the drive back to airport.

There are a few tears as we go our separate ways in Addis Ababa, we’ve all returned home with a lifetime of memories, some incredible friendships and dreaming of the days when we might be lucky enough to return to our piece of paradise.

Malawi - Day 7

How did we get here? The last day in Malawi today and the Friday feeling is here already! Just the girls at the build today, progress was a little slower, but we did have a crash course on cooking chicken from scratch, meaning catching and "preparing" it as well! Life is simple, what you want for lunch? Chicken. All right, lets grab one!

Lads at the nursery chilling in the meantime.

Footy tournament scheduled for the afternoon with gifts for the village and builders. The locals were treated to beautifications, courtesy of Elisa during the football match. Meanwhile Vasiliki got Africanised with skin to skin extensions!

We said our final farewells at the infant home and the mothers sang and danced with us all. What a fantastic end to this amazing trip!

The evening got a little wild at what we affectionately call the zebra club with dancing, drinking, drinking and well some more drinking, followed by garden party whiskey, laughter and more beer till 2am! No-one wants the magic to be over.

Malawi - Day 6

Oh la la the group of the builders are totally knackered, we were not built for this! At the site in 31 degree heat digging the latrine for the toilet (down to 1.60 metres so far) and adding more to the hundreds of bricks we have made so far! With the best builders, Steven, Akem, the funny George and Capito and the rest of the crew!

Laoise, Victoria and Nic are having their turn at the infant home and going on outreach. It’s another emotionally charged day, but seeing how the work everyone is doing is making a difference is a memory that will last a lifetime.

We head back to the cottage after a detour (or two) in the village stocking up on the all-important beer and gifts for our families…plus someone went to get their hair braided!

Malawi - Day 5

What a fantastic day today! All of us were "abandoned" by Charlie and no hotspot (!!) for 2 days! we all found our way.

Walked 2 hours in the morning to the infant home through the local markets stalls, found a barber for David and "magic hands" for Vasiliki to go afro style! 4 ladies are on board so look out for pictures!

Took a local taxi, got local muffins from a kiosk and fried potatoes from a street stall, while the toughies (Dan, David and Laoise) got a local cooking session with the builders. One got a fizzy drink- the first of 2018 from Daniel and was very happy.

While we were onto the local life, hippos, crocodiles and an elephant said hello to the rest of the group on the safari.

After dinner, we started to sort all of the donations of clothes etc. that we brought with us.

Totally fabulous day today! Elisa is off to bed... its 8:30pm
