Malawi - Day 2

Good morning with a long lie in till 8am - woohoo! The sound of birds and the lake rouse us from our slumber and we are greeted with the most beautiful setting that we were completely oblivious to in the dark. We have a very healthy breakfast of avocado, tomatoes, eggs, fruit salad and a lot more.

It appears that we all slept very peacefully apart from David who became a host to all the ants! Bit of an ants’ pillow fight during the night. Poor David. We sprayed so hopefully tonight he will have an ant free sleep!

1030am and on our way to the feeding station and school room - see what we have to build!!

1130am. WOW. We have had the most amazing welcome from the children in the village. The kids immediately took us by the hand, laughing hugging and kissing us. They don't have adults around and were overwhelmed with joy to be with us, taking pictures, climbing up the trees! Even running behind the car when we were leaving.

12am We went to the infant home to find shortly after we arrived all the children from the feeding station have followed us all the way to the gate.

We had an amazing welcome at the home with traditional singing and dancing, before embarking on our tour of the Infant Home.

We are at the infant home, the entire building which is home to toddlers from 0-2 years. Here the kids stay in a dormitory style environment where they have a proper bed, mattress, mosquito net, playground and food 3-5 times a day, before they are rehomed with extended family in the community.

We are treated to lunch at the home whilst we are there and lots of cuddles (and dirty nappies!) from the children

It’s 4.30 pm and we’ve headed back to the cottage and climbed the mountain that sits behind the house to enjoy the beautiful view before sunset. After a quick shower, we head off for dinner at a local restaurant armed with lots mosquito repellent!
